These are the top ten most EXPENSIVE mistakes made in poker… mistakes that YOU are probably making RIGHT NOW.

Let’s go through them one-by-one… and learn how to FIX them immediately.

MISTAKE #1: Playing Too Many Hands

Most poker players are too loose with their starting hand selection. You’ve got to stick with PREMIUM hands… especially when you’re at a 8-man or 10-man table. Quit limping in with bad cards in hopes of hitting something on the flop. All those blinds add up… and it’s not worth it. At an 8-player table, focus on playing hands like pocket pairs, suited connectors, A-X suited, or two face cards. Leave hands like K-3, J-8, Q-2, and 10-7 alone. Just fold them pre-flop. The REASON most people play too many hands is because they want ACTION. They don’t want to just sit and there and wait forever until they get good cards. But if you want to win, you must be patient. In fact… if you’re playing good poker, you should often be bored. That’s right: BORED.

MISTAKE #2: Playing Your Position Wrong

Positioning is EVERYTHING in Texas Holdem poker. Good positioning means you get to see what your opponents do FIRST before you have to act. Based on their behavior and betting, you can make an informed decision about what YOU want to do. Good positioning is LATE positioning. That means you’re one of the last to act after the flop. The most IDEAL position is the dealer (or button). The mistake most players make is playing the CARDS without considering their positioning. For instance, the way to play pocket Aces in the big blind is totally different than the way to play it in the dealer position. And that goes for all starting hands… and all positions. The basic strategy you need to know is that you want to play MORE starting hands from a later position. And you want to play these hands more aggressively. Most of your bluffs should come with good positioning too… because that’s when you’ll have the best read on the players at the table. In early positioning you want to play FEWER hands. Especially when you’re immediately to the left of the big blind (also known as “under the gun”).

MISTAKE #3: Thinking You’re A “Natural”

It’s amazing how often I hear someone say, “I’m a natural poker player…” What IS a “natural” poker player anyway? The truth is, poker is an extremely complex and multi-faceted game. It involves math, psychology, body language skills, self control, performing under pressure, and a ton of other things. The problem with thinking you’re a “natural”– just because you’re good at reading people’s faces or something– is that it LIMITS your ability to improve. No matter how good you are at poker, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. And in each respective area of the game, there’s ALWAYS more to learn. Not only that, but poker has been around for a LONG time… way before it started appearing on every TV station. A lot of poker strategy has been DEVELOPED. There are step-by-step techniques, tricks, and “plays” that you can use to win more money at the tables. These strategies won’t just “come to you” like a little light bulb over your head. Not a chance. Instead, you’ve got to STUDY the game, talk to other players, and be constantly LEARNING more in order to push yourself to the next level.

MISTAKE #4: Getting Too Emotional

Emotional control is a big part of Holdem. You’ve got to be able to “let go” and become unattached from the outcome of the game. The REASON emotions run strong in poker is because your mixing MONEY, EGO, and CHANCE… all together. It’s DEFINITELY a recipe for some strong emotions. The key is to EXPECT IN ADVANCE that things will get stressful and intense. EXPECT that you’re going to get “rivered” and “sucked out”. The reason it’s important is because if you let go of your logic and start playing based on EMOTION, you’ll never, EVER win. Avoid TILT at all costs. It causes more poker players to go broke than any other phenomenon. Stay in control of yourself and be “unattached” to the game. Don’t let anything affect you… just remain focused on winning Period.

MISTAKE #5 Playing The Wrong Stakes

The stakes you play is what determines the SKILL you play against. And if you’re outmatched, nothing else matters… because ultimately you’re going to lose. But if you’re way better than everyone at your current level, then maybe it’s time to “step it up a notch”. Playing the RIGHT stakes is a delicate balance. I’ve found the most effective way to determine the RIGHT stakes is to calculate your profit per hour over time. The difference in your “profit per hour” at a $5 Sit and Go versus a $10 Sit and Go can be DRAMATIC. But you may get WHOMPED at the $20 Sit and Go… and lose your bankroll in a snap. Here’s an important tip… When you try to move UP in stakes, don’t be afraid to move BACK DOWN if it isn’t working. The action plan I recommend is to build your bankroll where you KNOW you can win… then move up. If you lose your bankroll, move back down and build it up again. Then move up in stakes and try it again. Repeat this process over and over and you’ll be continually improving… moving up to bigger games and more money. This process also LOWERS YOUR RISK. Follow those steps and you won’t be gambling with next month’s rent.

MISTAKE #6: Focusing Too Much On The Cards

Always remember this principle: PLAY THE PLAYER, NOT THE CARDS. Ultimately, the cards determine who’s the winner for a hand… but that’s only when a hand plays out until the VERY END and all cards are flipped over. GOOD poker players hardly ever make it to that level in a hand. Because they either force their opponents to fold or fold because they pick up a read on their opponents. The only times you should be flipping your cards up at the end is when you KNOW you have the best hand and you’ve just milked some sucker for a huge pot. Get it? The PLAYER you’re up against is what you need to focus on. Not your cards. Figure out his betting patterns, his habits, his tells, his movements… EVERYTHING. And then play him like a fiddle for all his chips.

MISTAKE #7: Being Too Predictable

Just as you should be studying your opponents, your opponents should be studying YOU. The biggest mistake you can make is become PREDICTABLE. When you’re predictable, you can’t win at poker. Because every time you get good cards, everyone will fold. And every time you get bad cards, everyone will bet. The key is to BE AWARE OF YOUR BETTING PATTERNS. Bet strong hands a certain way for awhile… then mix it up a bit. Do crazy things… bet odd amounts… make the same pre-flop raise for both 8-7 suited and pocket 10’s. Whatever. MIX IT UP and kill any consistencies that appear in your game.

MISTAKE #8: Not Knowing When To Quit

Know when to get up from a table… it will save you a LOT of money over the long term. This is crucial when you’ve either just WON a ton of money or just LOST a ton of money. Because in either case, the tendency from that point forward is going to be to LOSE. You’ll either lose your profits or dig yourself in a hole deeper… but either way, it’s not good. Losing streaks suck… because they take hold of some weird part of your brain that virtually always PREVENTS you from making a comeback. No matter how determined you are… no matter how SURE you are that your “luck” will change… it’s not going to happen. You’ll lose more. So just STOP. With winning streaks, it’s the same way. Having a lot of “new money” makes it less REAL… and there’s a tendency to lose it quickly on stupid moves. So if you’re WAY UP or WAY DOWN in a game, just stop playing for the day. Go back at it tomorrow, it’s no big deal.

MISTAKE #9: Not Knowing The Odds

Knowing the ODDS and PROBABILITY in poker is a standard ingredient for success. You can win some games just by being able to read your opponents and “guess” at what types of betting decisions to make… But ultimately, knowing the odds is what it takes to be a REAL Texas Holdem poker player. The good news is, you don’t have to be a “math genius” to know the odds of a hand. There are a lot of shortcuts and tricks you can use to calculate pot odds, hand percentages, outs, and other important numbers.

MISTAKE #10: Not Getting Help

Like I said before, you weren’t BORN knowing how to play poker. You had to LEARN it. In every aspect of the game, you’ve got to continually ask yourself the question, “Is this EXACTLY what I should be doing in this situation?” There are two main ways to improve your Texas Holdem poker skills:
1. Learn from experience.
2. Learn from someone who has mastered the game.
The problem with experience is that it takes YEARS and YEARS– even DECADES– of playing Texas Holdem again and again… It’s a great way to learn… but just plain inefficient. On the other hand, learning from proven strategies and “field-tested” techniques is the absolute FASTEST way to pick up the game. You can SKYROCKET your skills… OVERNIGHT… if you study the techniques and concepts developed by other players. If you’re serious about the game and want to learn more, then I encourage you to read my eBook, “No Limit Holdem Secrets”. It’s jam-packed with poker shortcuts, pro-level tactics, and everything you NEED to know in order to win at Texas Holdem. Cash games, tournaments, heads-up play, online, offline… odds, tells, starting hands, bluffs… EVERYTHING. It’s all in my eBook. I’m absolutely confident that this course will help you win more cash at poker right away– just as it has for thousands of poker players around the world.

David Glazen knows what it feels like to loose big playing online poker. The tech guru and poker pro moved his game online over a year ago and took a big hit. He was not the first to discover that the poker skills that can make one a winner in a live game do not necessarily transfer to the online environment. He admits to loosing over $10,000 of his money playing online when he first started out.

Rather then give up on online poker David used his tech skills to come up with a brilliant poker bot. The concept was simple enough - a computer program that could play online poker. One that could beat human opponents consistently however took some work. As he explains at this web site he called on some of his University friends to help him out and was eventually able to produce a money making poker bot. He is now offering for download all the information required for anyone to produce their very own PokerBots. While he will only release the information to a limited number of people those who have downloaded the information are already making big money at the online sites.

He is so confident with the performance of the PokerBot he actually guarantees it will make money for its users. He also gives a brief technical overview and explains how even those with no technical experience can build PokerBots using what he calls ‘The Decision Engine’ and ‘Input Generator’ which he includes in the download. His knowledge and expertise in the online poker domain is indeed impressive as well as his willingness to make this information available to the public.

MISTAKE #1: Not Bluffing Enough

Poker is a game of ODDS and SKILL… but it’s also a game of PSYCHOLOGY and LUCK.

If you listen to the advice of an odds calculator 100% of the time, yes, you’ll come out ahead. But you don’t want to become a predictable “robot” who only plays favorable odds
and never bluffs.

Get my drift?

There are times in every poker game when you’ll want to buy the blinds because you sense weakness, over bet the pot to give off a certain table image, or “bully” the table with your huge chip stack.

Odds calculators don’t bluff.

And they don’t tell you when to bluff.

That’s why you’ve got to stay alert and make these types of decisions based on your own intuition…

MISTAKE #2: Not Paying Enough Attention To Your Opponents

The right odds calculator can quickly become addictive. It’s easy to get in a bad habit of just listening to its “advice” without paying attention to the game.

This allows you to save time, save energy, and play multiple games at once.

BUT…

Just like bluffing, blindly listening to an odds calculator can be detrimental. It can prevent you from catching important TELLS at the table.

Pay close attention to your opponents so that you spot someone on “tilt”, identify an amateur, and pick up betting patterns.

MISTAKE #3: Not Considering “Likely Odds”

Let’s say you’ve got pocket Queens. You make a pre-flop raise of 3x the big blind and get four callers (at an 8-man table).

The flop hits: A-A-K

What a TERRIBLE flop, right? You figure one of your four opponents MUST have an Ace… or at least a King. And that means all you can hope for on the turn or river is a Queen.

If someone throws out a sizeable bet in this situation, you would fold… because you know you’re beat.

What’s interesting is that a “primitive” odds calculator would tell you that you have a STRONG hand: two pair with a great kicker. And it would probably tell you to call any bets… or even raise.

Crazy, huh?

You see, here’s the thing: Most odds calculators only look at YOUR hand… and don’t try to “deduce” what your opponents might have. They don’t look at what’s “likely”.

You and I both know that the only way someone would call a pre-flop raise of 3x the big blind is if they have something good… like an Ace. But an odds calculator that just pays attention to your cards has no idea.

Calculatem Pro is different. Calculatem Pro DOES look at what’s “likely” and what’s not. It takes a look at those four players who stayed in the pot and calculates the likelihood that one of them is holding an Ace or a King… given all the possible conditions.

Don’t download an odds calculator that doesn’t do “likely odds”, otherwise you’re just asking for trouble.

MISTAKE #4: Relying Too Much On Odds During “All-In” Plays

In no limit Texas Holdem there is no restriction to how much you can bet. This makes the use of an odds calculator more tricky in this game type.

For instance, let’s say there’s $20 in the pot and your opponent decides to go all-in for hi entire stack of $480.

You have to make a decision to call or fold.

The “pot odds” in a situation like this aren’t very good. The reason is because there’s such a small amount in the pot.

In this situation, however, pot odds don’t mean much. Your decision shouldn’t be based on “math”… it should be based on WHETHER YOU THINK YOUR OPPONENT HAS A BETTER HAND.

An all-in situation is so “disproportionate” that odds aren’t really relevant… so don’t get too caught up in them.

MISTAKE #5: Mis-Interpreting Odds Information When Playing
Heads-Up (Or Short-Handed)

With just 2-3 players at the table, chances are NO ONE will get good cards. At this stage in the game, winning is more about bluffs and reading opponents.

Proof of this is the fact that most heads-up hands never get to “show down”. Someone almost always folds BEFORE the river.

Therefore, the odds of “winning by river” aren’t as relevant in this type of situation. Who cares if you have 7-2 offsuit? All that REALLY matters is what your opponent THINKS you have.

When I get heads-up, I don’t pay attention to the “hand strength” percentage or “odds by river” on my odds calculator.

Instead, I pay attention to the “odds on next card” feature, because that’s what is IMMEDIATELY relevant.

MISTAKE #6: Not Adjusting The Odds To Your Personal Style

When you download an odds calculator, make sure it fits your personal “style” of play. If you’re a loose pre-flop player, you don’t want your odds calculator constantly telling you to “play tight and fold”…

Instead, you want your odds calculator to be “loose” and simply show you when you’re deviating in the wrong manner.

Holdem Genius and Calculatem Pro both feature “play settings” that you can customize for your own needs and preference.

(These settings apply both to pre-flop and post-flop play.)

This is also very useful depending on your game type. For instance, I set my pre-flop settings to be extremely tight in large multi-table tournaments… because my strategy is to sit back and be very patient.

But in a shorthanded Sit and Go, I do exactly the opposite, because “loose” hand selection is required to avoid getting blinded out.

MISTAKE #7: Using The Wrong Odds Calculator

An odds calculator is only useful if it has the FEATURES YOU NEED and if you USE IT RIGHT.

Avoid the common mistakes we’ve just discussed and you’ll be well on your way to maximizing your online poker profits.

The next step is to simply get the BEST odds calculator possible.

My highest recommendation goes to “Calculatem Pro”. It has all the features we’ve just discussed… and dozens more.

It’s by far the easiest-to-use and most useful odds calculator on the market… and it’s proven to help players like you make more money at online poker.

You can download Calculatem Pro now for FREE (by joining a partner casino).

Over the course of the past ten years, a significant number of men and women have become actively involved in all types of online gaming, and poker is certainly no exception. In fact, with poker’s recent rise in popularity - hundreds of thousands of people from the world over involve themselves in Internet based poker tournaments each and every year, and the numbers are quickly growing. To some, the very concept of entering a ‘tournament’ may seem intimidating, but they aren’t just for the aspiring card professional. These days there are players of all skill levels participating on the tables, and entry fees as low as a couple of dollars.

What Are Online Poker Tournaments’

There are not a lot of significant differences between poker tournaments played in cyberspace and those conducted in the brick and mortar world. The obvious difference is when playing in an online poker game your opponents are not physically seated next to you. Asides from that, the rules and betting structures are normally the same.

Tournaments of all types and sizes are available for online patrons to enter, from single table “pick up” games to massive multi-table events.

Single table tournaments are not unlike what many people are already accustomed to playing on a Saturday night at home with friends ‘ 6, 8 or 10 players at one table, with the top 2 or 3 places dividing the prize money. At just about any online poker room these pick up games run all day long, commencing immediately once a table is filled, and opening a new table to seat the next set of players.

Multi-table tournaments can be comprised of as few as two tables, but it is not uncommon for a larger online tournament to attract thousands of entrants. In theory, due to today’s modern computer and communications technology, it is possible for an online poker tournament to have literally an unlimited number of entrants, as there are no physical limitations to the number of tables they can use.

Games Played at Online Poker Tournaments

In this day and age, nearly any type of poker game can be found played at one poker venue or another. While the increasingly popular Texas Hold ‘Em remains a favorite for large-scale events, there are other types of poker games that have become increasingly popular in the online poker tournament scene in recent years; including 7-Card Stud, Omaha, and their Hi/Lo (split pot) counterparts.

Tournament Buy-Ins

Online poker rooms have the financial advantage of no space constraints and electronic dealers, which allows them to offer much more flexibility when it comes to how low tournament buy-ins can go. For new players or those on a budget, there are entry fees as low as a dollar at some venues, and in some cases, even free tournaments with real prizes for new players (commonly referred to as ‘freerolls’).

On the other side, for more experienced players and those who prefer higher stakes action, single table buy-ins can go as high as $500 at some places, and direct buy-ins for larger multi-table events often run into the hundreds as well. Most online tournament operators charge an administrative fee of 10% that is added to the buy-in. A $10 tournament for example, would cost a player $11 in total to enter ($10 + $1). This 10% is where the house gets its profit, with the remainder of the money going towards the prize pool for winning players.

Satellites and Super-Satellites

Some larger tournaments may offer as much as millions of dollars in prizes, which requires large entry fees from it’s participants in order to fund. In some instances, organizers of these poker events will utilize a series of ’satellites’ and ’super satellites’ as part of the tournament structure to allow players a chance to work their way up to the main event without the expense of a direct buy-in.

Satellites are essentially inexpensive poker tournaments, the winners from which advance to either a super-satellite (see below) or directly into the main tournament event. These are also occasionally referenced as ‘qualifiers’.

Similarly, a super-satellite is a higher-priced version of a satellite tourney - not as expensive to enter as a direct buy-in, but with a higher entry fee than a regular satellite. Winners advance onto the main tournament event with fees paid, and will also often receive cash prizes as well.

In conclusion, whether you’re just looking for a fun way to challenge your amateur skills or aspiring to be the next World Series Of Poker champion, online tournaments can provide any level of player with a fun poker experience at a price to suit any budget, perhaps of even winning a bit of money along the way. Definitely not just for the pros anymore.

“If, after the first twenty minutes, you don’t know who the sucker at the table is, it’s you.” ~Author Unknown.

Poker- a “ cheating game” first mentioned as being a card-game played on the Mississippi riverboats , by Jonathan H. Green in 1834, (however two slightly later publications showed it had well been in use by 1829 ) poker was already recognized as a game in which cardsharps would routinely take advantage of their unsuspecting novice victims and relieve them of their money in a variety of ways.

It appears that Poker sprung up from a certain discontent of people taken by the then popular Three -Card Monte- who figured that the new 20 card game was a more legit one. Poker was then played with 20 cards using the tens, the Jacks , Kings, Queens and aces. Each player was dealt five cards and it could be played by two to four people.

By the time Jonathan H. Green first wrote about it, it had already surpassed the Three-card Monte in popularity . He soon realized that his account was the first ever of this game, and he was the first one who recordedly called it “ Poker”.

The origin of this word is subject to debates to this very day. Some say it comes from the French “ poque” an 18 century game, other debate it is more likely to originate from the German “Pochspiel” - also a game involving an element of bluffing - or even the hindu word “ pukka”.

Yet another - more down-to- earth, or less scientific approach suggests that the word might have been invented by the very cardsharps who used the game to relieve suckers of their poke. The idea was that adding an “ r” at the end of the word would fool even those familiar with the underworld slang. The unsuspecting victim wasn’t supposed to understand what the “ seasoned Vets “ were communicating among each-other.

The game of poker went through a natural evolution process over the years first moving from the original 20 cards to 32, and then to 52, -today’s poker deck. The change was possibly made to accommodate more players, and ultimately, to make sure there were enough cards for the draw. This change also made a significant contribution to poker becoming more of a game of skill than one of chance. During America’s Wild West era, there was hardly a saloon in any town or village that would lack the poker table. It was then that the Draw Poker version appeared, nowadays being the most widely spread video-poker genre. It is first mentioned in 1850 in Bohn’s New Handbook of Games.

You get dealt five cards for starters , then you get to choose a few you want to hold on to and exchange the others in hope of getting a better five -card hand.

Poker came a long way from a back-room “ sucker-trap” game in the past to partly recognized sporting event in the present. The amount of money circulated by poker tournaments yearly rivals that of any leading edge sports.

Nowadays different tournaments are held on an almost weekly basis, and it’s quite safe to say Poker has become a global phenomenon. There’s still a lot of debate surrounding poker on whether it is more of a game of skill, thus eligible for being considered a legitimate sport, or more of a game of luck - which requires no more than blind chance to master.

Having gone through all the above, we must specify that regardless of all the evidence presented, the exact origin of poker, or any other classic game for that matter cannot possibly be pinpointed with accuracy. The reason is that people who first started using it never imagined it would someday be a classic, and the set of rules it is made up of ,probably didn’t originate from one single person.

What this present article is aiming for is to get players better acquainted with the roots of the game of poker by painting an approximate history of it based on available evidence.

After taking extensive advise from our legal team, Absolute Poker is pleased to announce that our core U.S.-facing online poker business remains unaffected in spite of the recent passage of legislation in the United States Congress, aimed at making US Customers ability to transact with some gaming websites more difficult. This has led some companies, mainly those whom are publicly traded and as such have to abide by specific rules and regulations, to choose to cease offering online gaming facilities to US customers.

It is the belief of our legal and executive team that online poker is a game of skill and the prohibitions signed into law on Friday Oct. 13, 2006 by the President of the United States neither apply to online poker nor our business.

All existing and new customers of Absolute Poker can rest assured their funds are safe and secure and that their online poker playing is entirely legal and can continue to enjoy playing poker uninterrupted at Absolute Poker — our business will operate entirely as normal.

As the one of the largest online poker companies we continue to welcome all Poker Players! Absolute Poker absolutely confident in its ability to continue to offer U.S. customers the very best in Online Poker — we look forward to welcoming all new customers. With the fastest secure deposit and payout solutions, all new and existing customers should be 100% confident in playing with the very best poker room.

Importantly Absolute Poker is a privately held operation, which gives our business model more flexibility and creativity in operating that our publicly held counterparts don’t have. Furthermore, the Safe Ports Act passed by the U.S. Congress on September 30th neither prohibits nor makes it illegal for any U.S. customer to transact with Absolute Poker and therefore customers experience at Absolute Poker will not change. Our business continues to run as normal and our executive team expects to see the business to continue to grow in both the short and long term.

We are exploring all of our options with our existing payment processors and ensure any existing or new customer that all funds are safe and secure. Indications are that many of our payment providers will be unaffected by this law and their business will also be able to operate uninterrupted and unimpeded.

We are confident that our business, and that of our partners and suppliers, will be unaffected because while the U.S. Congress’ efforts potentially could block transactions conducted within the U.S. banking system, many of our payment providers transactions are done within the framework of the international banking system, which the U.S. Congress has no control over.

Poker psychology is the key to becoming a good or even great poker player.

Let’s first of all define what the word psychology actually means. As defined by the American Heritage dictionary it’s:

1. The science that deals with mental processes and behaviour.

2. The emotional and behavioural characteristics of an individual or group.

3. Subtle tactical action or argument used to manipulate or influence another:

4. Philosophy The branch of metaphysics that studies the soul, the mind, and the relationship of life and mind to the functions of the body.

All the above come into play in poker. For example, how critical is point 3 in terms of bluffing and slow playing? It’s absolutely critical!

A Simple Example of the Importance of Poker psychology

Poker is a psychological game as you are playing against other players and the best hand does not always win the pot.

Don’t forget your hand does not have to be the best hand dealt; you simply need to beat your opponents by psyching them out.

How many times does a poker player kick himself that he has folded a good hand to see a far weaker hand win the pot? If you play poker regularly, you will see it happen all the time. It’s the psychological battle between players that will always keep it that way.

Poker Psychology - How to Adopt the Right Mindset for Success

The first thing you need to win big in poker and be successful is to WANT to succeed.

In fact, if you listen to interviews with any people at the top of their profession, (not just in poker), but in life generally, how often do they quote the will to succeed? You will hear it all the time and it’s no coincidence that they succeeded.

Here are some tips to gain you a psychological edge over other players:

1. Cover the Basics First

Start by learning everything you can about poker that can be learned, so you know all about pot odds, money management, slow playing, how to bluff etc. This knowledge still needs to be applied with a winning psychology but you need to have the knowledge initially.

2. Study Your Opponents

Try to get inside their heads by observing them closely. Look for weaknesses and strengths in their play and adapt your playing strategy accordingly.

3. Have Confidence and Courage

You’re not going to win big at poker unless you have the courage and conviction to play for large pots.

When the time is right, have the courage and confidence to back your judgment.

4. Be Patient

Patience means that every time you see clearly that you will lose, you will fold, even if you have folded dozens of hands in succession.

Be patient, wait for the best hand and then play it for all its worth.

Poker is a game that requires a long-term patient approach to profits and all great players know that you can’t rush profits.

5. Poker Is The Most Important Thing In Life!

Well not exactly!

However, it is when you sit down to play and then it should be the only subject on your mind. If you have had hard day at work, are worried about someone, or had an argument with your partner, don’t play. Only play when you’re fully focused.

So there you have it, you can see how important poker psychology is in becoming a great player.

Therefore, if you have the will to succeed, then you’re on your way to becoming a good, or even a great poker player. Good luck!

There are several reasons to chop and change online poker rooms habitually, such as taking advantage of the available free chip and deposit offers, but there is one really good reason to stay loyal to a poker room when you feel comfortable at one.

Before we look at that one particular reason, here is a brief look at five popular reasons why you should play at more than one regular poker room:

1. By using multiple online poker rooms you have access to a far greater number of tournaments or ring games at any time of the day.

2. There are more invitational tournament invites for “loyal players” which is often decided by the number of raked hands the player has accumulated over a certain time period so it make sense to show “loyalty” to several rooms.

3. Some poker rooms have looser players than others and this varies in each room throughout the day.

4. If a player feels they are being “easily read” and losing their chips they can move to another room with ease.

5. The ability to take advantage of freerolls across multiple online poker rooms as and when they appear.

These are all worthy reasons why you can chop and change your online poker rooms but the one reason that many players will choose to be very loyal to one particular room is the “rakeback”.

The rakeback may help poker rooms keep the big players in one room if they won’t try to cover its existence from the players who choose to hop from room to rooms. A “rake” is the house’s commission that all poker rooms take from played hands. The rake varies from 1% to 10% depending on pot size, as well as other factors.

The poker rooms keep 100% of the “rake” unless circumstances such as promotions and affiliate referrals apply. This is one reason you should always question a poker room with an affiliate log tacked onto the end of the web address. Did they promise you huge wins and loose players or did they simply refer you to the site?

You should keep in mind if you find a good strong rakeback programme, the chances are it may not pay you to play in a variety of rooms. You may find it is much more profitable to be loyal to one room in which case you can play and act accordingly.

What is especially great in online poker games is the fact that you get to choose the card room that you will be participating in. Although in live poker games, you also have the same privilege, poker rooms online are vastly different.

Perhaps one advice that professional poker players can give novices is that once you have found the perfect poker room for you, you have already won half of the battle. Believe it or not, there are poker rooms online that are more profitable than others. Every poker room offers something different to a player. A player must know then which of the poker rooms suit him best.

Look into the games

There are so many kinds of online poker that it is hard to keep track of all of them. Before getting started, narrow down your search for the poker rooms by considering those that offer the games that you would like to play. Most sites would indicate the kinds of games that are being played in the room before you enter.

Look into the numbers

Poker is a card game but in choosing a poker room, you need to think numbers first before symbols and suits. Determine the number of players in the room before joining. Chances are, the bigger the population, the harder will it be for you to win.

Look into the players

If you can watch a game, go ahead and observe. This will help you determine the kind of players each room has. Of course, if you are just a novice player, you would not want to join a room with experienced players unless you want to end up as minced meat. Often, sites will have rooms for amateurs and another room for professionals.

You should also take note of additional features of the rooms that will help you with your game. For instance, some online poker rooms allow players to talk to each other and communicate.

Look for bonuses

Choose rooms that offer special packages and bonuses to players. This is especially advantageous to players who play deep and bet large amounts of money. There also sites that offer sign-up bonuses that players can take advantage of. Be careful though because some bogus operations use these sign-up packages to lure customers in.

Look into the reviews

Before joining a room, look at poker reviews posted on the site. For novices or those who are just starting to learn, it is a good idea to join rooms that are highly-rated for novices. You should also look into the reputation of the room. Do players win in the room? How many games do they offer? What kind of payment schemes do they go for?

Look into the payment and collecting scheme

You are gambling not only for leisure but also to win money. Before you go about betting your money, make sure that you know clearly how the payment scheme works. Most use credit cards or debit cards in placing their bets online. The same is also used to deposit winnings.

Another way to deposit and withdraw money for online poker games is through the Neteller, which works like an ATM. You can actually withdraw your winnings in cash within 24 hours. Also, some poker rooms and gambling sites offer special bonuses when a player uses the Neteller.
